Orientation and Identity are not a Heat Level
Escalating Scale
Heat Levels
1 Sweet/Clean
Note: To be conceded clean, the language must also be as such.
From no contact to sexual encounters behind closed doors. Romance drives the main plot.
2 Mild/Sensual
Typically contains open-door sexual encounters with more focus on the emotional experience without graphic language
3 Steamy/Mainstream
Note; The current standard for mainstream Romance
Typically includes a more explicit description of sexual encounters, but the plot drives the story.
4 Spicy
Includes more graphic terms for sexual encounters and body parts. It may include light BDSM, darker or commonly considered taboo themes and often more frequent use of graphic sex scenes, as long as its frequency does not outweigh the Romance plot. It must contain a romantic theme.
5 Sizzling
Highly explicit/graphic/frequent sexual encounters. The plot is not entirely dependent on romance.
Violence Levels
1 No Violence
No intent or intent without visible physical or psychological action
2 Mild Violence
Intent with little physical interaction but may contain light verbal or psychological interaction
3 Escalated Violence
Physical interaction is shown but not graphically described. Verbal and psychological actions are prevalent. Harming one’s self or others Typically contains possible triggers.
4 Graphic Violence
Clear harmful intent, with depictions of harms, described and implied throughout with language and vivid imagery. Contains more extreme triggers.
